slotave

Solana seals a block roughly every 400 milliseconds. Slotwave plays that pulse as music: transactions set the notes, compute load sets the brightness, fees drive the bass. When something odd happens on chain, like a skipped slot or a compute spike, you hear it in violet.

what you're hearing

notes

each slot plays 1 to 4 pentatonic notes from its real transactions (validator votes are filtered out). busier slots get more notes, higher up the scale.

brightness

compute load opens a lowpass filter. an idle chain sounds dull, a congested one sounds bright.

bass

total fees set the ground note under every slot. heavier fees make a harder floor.

crackle

failed transactions fall as small grains under the timeline. you hear them as static.

air

a slow pad breathes underneath with overall activity. congestion opens it up, a skipped slot leaves a hole.

skip

a leader missed its slot. the tape gaps and a low violet thud marks the silence.

spike

compute usage shot far above its recent average, so you get a metallic violet burst.

how it works

Solana finalizes a block about every 400 milliseconds. Slotwave listens to that stream and turns each slot's transactions, compute and fees into sound. Anything statistically unusual comes through in violet.

Replay loops a captured tape and needs no setup. Live follows mainnet a few seconds behind the tip through a caching proxy, so your browser never talks to an RPC provider directly.

controls

  • space: play or pause
  • hover the tape (long-press on touch): inspect any slot's transactions, compute and fees
  • wav: save the last minute of tape as an audio file
  • drag the tape: scrub like a record, playback lands wherever you let go
  • click the tape: jump straight to that slot
  • ‹ 30s / ← →: skip back or forward. in live mode the buffer keeps a couple of minutes of tape recording while you listen to the past
  • shift + ← →: step the inspector along the tape, slot by slot (esc dismisses it)
  • share (or click the slot number): copy a link that lands the tape on that exact moment
